He was born on June 29, 1914, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Van Nuys, California. He began his acting career in the theater before transitioning to radio and eventually to film and television.

Some of his notable film and television appearances include "The Twilight Zone," "The Longest Day," "Hombre," "Gidget," and "Perry Mason." He also provided the voice of "Zeus" in the Disney animated film "Hercules."

In addition to his acting career, Keach was also a musician and composer. He played the saxophone and was a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Keach was married twice and had four children, including actor Stacy Keach Jr. He passed away on February 13, 2003, at the age of 88, in Burbank, California.
